The highly popular Great Debate will return to APP this year as two teams of prominent pharmacy leaders, Team Australia and The World, battle the proposition ‘Australia is ahead of the pack’.
Held on Saturday 9 March at 4.15pm, The Great Debate: Team Australia vs The World is set to be fiery.
Debate Facilitator and Guild Communications Advisor Greg Turnbull said The Great Debate will go beyond the realms of community pharmacy in a good, old-fashioned, light-hearted debate.
“The traditional style debate has become a feature of recent Pharmacy Guild conferences and this year at APP, it promises to be a highlight,” Mr Turnbull said.
“Team Australia will be arguing that ‘Australia is ahead of the pack’ and that may roam across broad territory – from community pharmacy, to culture, food, politics and geographical supremacy such as our beaches.
“It will be up to The World team to rebut the proposition in any way they can – diplomacy permitting.”
The debate will consist of two three-member teams of prominent Australian and international pharmacy leaders.
Representing Team Australia will be the Guild’s ACT Branch President Simon Blacker and National Councillors Natalie Willis and Paul Jones.
Representing The World will be Irish Pharmacy Union’s Darragh O’Loughlin, Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (UK)’s Mark Burdon and National Community Pharmacists Association (US)’s Doug Hoey.
The debate will also involve audience participation, with the winning side determined through crowd acclamation by applause.
Is Australia ahead of the pack? The answer is up to delegates.
APP2019 will be held from 7-10 March at Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. For a full program or to register online, visit www.appconference.com.
