The 2020 Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference & Trade Exhibition (APP2020) is pleased to welcome pharmacist and internationally credentialled organisational coach, Barbara Gobis to educate and inspire delegates on pharmacists’ clinical process and maximising patient-centred practice.
Barbara will present two sessions at APP2020, drawing on her expertise in developing, implementing and managing large-scale initiatives within pharmacy organisations and front-line pharmacist practice in Canada.
“Few pharmacists currently have a built-in clinical process to care for the people who use medicines,” Barbara said.
“A shift in thinking and doing our work is necessary for the pieces to fall into place around full scope practice, payment for clinical services and pharmacist professional satisfaction.
“At APP, I will demystify the pharmacist’s clinical process and share practical strategies so pharmacists can identify, establish and integrate their own clinical process into their workplace.
“I plan to help my pharmacist colleagues focus, apply, and perhaps rekindle in some cases, their passion for our profession by seeing the opportunities available to us during this time of transition.”
Barbara developed and currently oversees the Pharmacists Clinic at the University of British Columbia, a pharmacist-led, patient care clinic and living laboratory where real-world systems and processes are developed to catalyse pharmacist practice change.
Her team are passionate about supporting pharmacists as the profession evolves to where clinical, patient-focused practice is the norm.
Barbara’s professional achievements also include establishing the first pharmacist home visit program from a community pharmacy in Ottawa, creating a consulting pharmacist service in psychiatric long-term care, project managing health education programs and leading the pharmacy innovation portfolio for Canada’s largest independent community pharmacy banner.
Barbara’s sessions ‘The pharmacist’s clinical process – a foundation of patient care practice’ and ‘The pharmacist’s clinical process – bringing yours to life’ will be held on Thursday, 19 March at 11.15am and Sunday, 22 March at 12.10pm respectively.
