Minister Hunt to deliver opening keynote address at APP2018
The Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP) has announced that Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt will deliver the opening keynote address at APP2018.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President George Tambassis said that Minister Hunt will present in the opening plenary session on Thursday 3 May.
“It’s great news that the Federal Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, will again attend APP as our keynote speaker on day one. His participation in the presentation of the Guild Pharmacy of the Year 2018 awards is also a real feather in the cap of the conference and of the Guild. It adds a lot to what is always a great occasion to have the Minister on hand.
“Minister Hunt has only been in the health portfolio for a comparatively short time – a little over a year – but in that time he has shown an acute awareness of the importance of community pharmacy in our health system. His presence at APP will be a further indication of his commitment to our sector – owners, staff and patients,” said George.
APP Chairman Kos Sclavos AM said that the opening plenary will now run from 8.30am – 10.30am with a refreshed format to provide a dynamic introduction to the Conference.
“In addition to the Health Minister presenting the opening keynote address, the opening plenary will highlight achievements and challenges for community pharmacy.
“National President George Tambassis will provide an update on the state of community pharmacy and set the vision for the Guild for the next 12 months. In addition, awards of excellence will be showcased, including the presentation of the prestigious Guild Pharmacy of the Year Award.
“As the opening session will begin at 8.30am, I would like to take this opportunity to remind delegates to review their travel plans to ensure they do not miss this important session,” Kos said.
Kos added that APP is the largest pharmacy conference and trade exhibition in Australia and is a priority event for community pharmacy businesses and wholesalers alike.
“Due to the Commonwealth Games, APP2018 will be held a little later this year, from 3-6 May. With a sold out trade exhibition and jam packed program, APP remains a key event for pharmacists to attend in developing business plans and strategies to address the opportunities and challenges faced in community pharmacy today,” Kos said.
APP offers attendees a comprehensive four-day educational program, an exciting social agenda and a trade exhibition featuring over 450 stands showcasing the latest products, services, and industry developments.
