Dr Fiona Wood has been a burns surgeon and researcher for the past 25 years. She is Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, co-founder of the skin cell laboratory in Western Australia, Winthrop Professor in the School of Surgery at The University of Western Australia, and Co-founder and Chair of the Fiona Wood Foundation. In 2002, Dr Wood and her team worked to care for badly burned victims of the Bali bombings. It was during this time that the “spray-on skin” cell technology pioneered by Dr Wood grabbed international headlines. In recognition of this work, she was named West Australian of the Year in 2004 and Australian of the Year in 2005.
