Dr Nural Cokcetin has been investigating the medicinal properties of honey since discovering during her PhD, which she was awarded from UNSW in 2005, that Australian honeys are prebiotics capable of improving gut health. Her current research in this field aims to develop treatments for infections caused by multi-drug resistant superbugs. In 2017, Nural was named best young science communicator in Australia in FameLab, the largest science communication competition in the world. She was also an invited speaker at TEDxYouth Sydney, where she was named one of the top five young change-makers for her honey research.
