Ita Buttrose has a long and distinguished career in the Australian media, with roles including founding editor of Cleo, youngest ever editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly, and first female director of News Ltd Australia. Ita’s charitable positions include National Ambassador of Dementia Australia, Patron of the Macular Disease Foundation, Emeritus Professor of Arthritis Australia and Ambassador for Breast Cancer Network Australia. In 2013, Ita was named Australian of the Year. The following year she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters by Macquarie University in recognition of her contribution to the arts, and in 2015 was awarded a second Honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Woollongong for her contribution to mental health and ageing.
