TV ‘Shark’ Steve Baxter to share entrepreneurial success secrets at APP2019

Leading tech entrepreneur and ‘shark’ on Network Ten’s previous competitive reality show, Shark Tank Australia, Steve Baxter will share his secrets at APP2019 on how pharmacies can benefit by thinking like an entrepreneur.

As one of Australia’s most successful tech entrepreneurs, investor and mentor, Steve Baxter brings a wealth of experience and expertise to APP2019. Steve will share his tips on how pharmacy businesses can embrace change and achieve success, using the lessons of past business to prepare for the future.

APP Chairman Kos Sclavos AM said Steve Baxter is a great asset to APP2019 and will have delegates walking back into their pharmacies with a renewed entrepreneurial mindset.

“Steve Baxter will explore disruption and its impact to the health sector and pharmacy now and in the future, with practical considerations to get you thinking,” Mr Sclavos said.

“As an entrepreneurial innovator, Steve’s way of thinking may be controversial for the pharmacy industry. However it is vital that pharmacists anticipate how disrupters think so that they can be aware of challenges the sector is facing and will face.

“This session is sure to be a ‘must attend’ at APP2019,” Kos said.

Steve Baxter’s career commenced in 1994 at the age of 23 when he put his life savings of $11,000 on the line to launch his first start-up, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net. Servicing more than 35,000 customers, SE Net was eventually acquired by Ozemail/UUNet under the stewardship of its founding Director and past Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

In 2001, Steve launched his second start-up, PIPE Networks, which he sold eight years later for $373 million.  Steve also spent a year working with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America.

In recent years Steve has become a major early-stage investor in Australian start-ups.  He is founder of River City Labs, a leading co-working community and start-up hub to grow the entrepreneurial scene in Queensland.

Steve’s session at APP2019 titled ‘How your pharmacy can benefit by thinking like an entrepreneur’ will be held on Thursday, 7 March at 4pm.

APP2019 will be held from 7-10 March at Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. For a full program or to register online, visit www.appconference.com.
