Dr Karen Demmery, a proud Wiradjuri woman from Dubbo, NSW, is dedicated to healing and empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. She is a respected trauma counsellor, trainer, and facilitator with extensive experience in government leadership, community advocacy, and cultural capability development. As Founder and Director of Burbirra Group Pty Ltd, Karen leads programs focused on trauma recovery and wellbeing. Her academic achievements include a PhD in Indigenous Trauma and Healing, alongside qualifications in mental health and leadership. Recognised nationally for her impact – including Lifeline Canberra’s Women of Spirit Award -Karen continues to champion culturally informed approaches that strengthen resilience and elevate First Nations voices.
